Sports injuries

For athletes, weekend warriors and everyone chasing a start line

Sports injuries of all types are a particular interest of the practice. Dr Dean Wilson has raced Ironman, Comrades and Two Oceans, and treats the injuries that come with training the way he would want his own treated: properly assessed, treated hands on, and with a plan to get back.

Who comes in

Every sport has its own strain

Running and trail running

Back, hip and leg niggles that build with the mileage, and the posture and stride habits behind them.

Cycling

Low back and neck strain from long hours in the saddle, and the set-up and posture changes that help.

Triathlon and swimming

Neck and shoulder load from the swim, the bike and the run, treated together rather than one at a time.

Racquet sports

Rotational strain through the back, neck and shoulders from tennis, squash and padel.

Surfing and paddling

Neck, low back and shoulder overload from paddling and pop-ups.

School and club sport

Growing athletes, contact injuries and the aches that come with a busy fixture list.

How it works for athletes

Get back, and stay back

  • A thorough assessment of the injury and of the spine, posture and movement behind it
  • Hands-on treatment on the first visit in most cases
  • Taping and strapping so you can keep training or race while you recover
  • Dry needling, traction and myofascial release when the muscles are part of the problem
  • Straight advice on training load, posture and technique
  • All medical aids accepted, and cash, card or EFT if you prefer

These are Dean's, not his patients'. It is why the practice understands what a Comrades taper or an Ironman build does to a body.
